Olympians Urge on Iran to Prevent Execution of Champion Boxer

In excess of two dozen Olympic champions, trainers and additional global sports figures have put their names to a statement calling for a end to the execution of a boxing champion and coach, who is facing execution in the country.

Pattern of Executing Competitors

The appeal noted that Vafaei Sani’s case was part of a pattern and underscored Iran’s record of sentencing to death athletes for their views, for example a national team leader, skipper of the national football team, and Fourouzan Abdi, captain of the national women’s volleyball team.
