Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.

Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.

The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
