European Football's Governing Body Initiates Disciplinary Case Involving Pedro Neto Following Altercation Involving Paris St-Germain Ball Boy.

UEFA has initiated a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto after he knocked over a young stadium attendant in the Champions League match by PSG.

The 26-year-old, Neto, shoved the youngster during added time of the knockout stage fixture in Paris – a match in which his team suffered a 5-2 – an action that led to him to fall off his seat.

The incident triggered an altercation between the opposing squads.

Uefa said the case has been opened against the player for "unsporting behaviour" as per UEFA's code.

"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will decide regarding this matter in due course," UEFA announced.

Neto apologised for the incident attributing it to getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" when he sought to get back the match ball.

"This is out of character for me. Emotions were running high and I offer my apologies. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I deeply regret it - I owe him an apology," Neto explained to broadcasters.

"I don't speak French well, so teammate Vitinha stepped in and said to him that this isn't my normal behaviour.

"Eventually he saw the funny side and I presented him with my jersey and said sorry repeatedly. He understood the context of the incident and was satisfied with how it was resolved."

The London club welcome PSG next Tuesday for the return fixture, following a match against Newcastle to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
